Comfortable Kitchen in A Rustic Cabin

DSC_2311-editSeveral years back, our customer Steve G. used the Cabinet Discounters Gaithersburg showroom and designer Jim O’Neil to help with the remodeling project in the kitchen at his home. More recently, Steve was in the process of building a cozy cabin along Lake Anna in Virginia and once again turned to Jim for assistance.

“Jim is the consummate cabinet/counter consultant – he is extremely knowledgeable, figures out what you need/want, does not try to oversell you and is helpful when budget is a concern. With guys like Jim O’Neil and a quality product, no need to go anywhere else.”

Searching for an efficient kitchen in his new space, Steve worked with Jim to create a functional area for both cooking and entertaining.DSC_2329-edit

“It’s important to me to be efficient in the kitchen, and we achieved that.” – Steve G.

Designing a kitchen in such a unique space was a thrill for even an experienced designer like Jim O’Neil.

“It was a pleasure working with someone so knowledgeable about construction and kitchen installation. He installed the first kitchen he ordered from me about 6 years ago. I am very satisfied with the results, especially having a very happy customer. Designing a kitchen in a log house from plans was challenging, but I loved it. I wish I had more customers like Steve.” – Jim O’Neil

DSC_2321-editOne of the biggest challenges that Jim faced in this project was a wooden beam that enters the kitchen space and obstructs an area that would normally be filled with cabinetry. However, with the flexibility and customization options available with Brighton Cabinetry, this was something they were able to work around.

For the perimeter cabinetry, Steve chose maple cabinets from Brighton with a Maple Bisque finish and Meadowview door style. These light cabinets are accompanied with a dark Verde Butterfly granite counter top. The island cabinetry, also from Brighton, is maple with a Maple Liberty finish which shares the same Meadowview door style as the perimeter. A Yellow River granite top adorns the island cabinets.
