Functional Kitchen Remodel with Gray Cabinets, Quartz Surfaces, and Decorative Tile Floor

An outdated kitchen can make everyday routines feel inefficient, especially when storage and layout no longer match how the space is used. This project, designed through the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Annapolis, MD, focused on improving function while keeping a simple, consistent look throughout the room.

The existing space was reworked to keep a similar U-shaped layout, giving the homeowner better access to storage, prep areas, and appliances, while also keeping the open flow of the space. Cabinetry runs along two walls, creating a continuous workspace while still leaving potential room for a small dining area near the window. The sink was positioned along the right wall with a clear line of sight into the adjacent room through an existing pass-through, helping the kitchen feel more connected to the rest of the home.

The cabinetry used is Homecrest Cabinetry in the Bishop Painted door style, finished in Iceberg Opaque. The clean lines of the door style and the light paint color keep the space bright without adding unnecessary detail. Wall cabinets are taken to the ceiling, which helps maximize storage and eliminates gaps above, giving the kitchen a more finished look. Simple hardware complements the cabinetry without drawing too much attention.

Cambria Clifton quartz was selected for both the countertops and the full-height backsplash. Running the same material up the wall creates a consistent surface that’s easy to maintain and avoids visual breaks along the perimeter. The subtle movement in the quartz adds enough variation to keep the space from feeling flat while still staying within a neutral palette.

One of the more noticeable design elements in this kitchen is the floor. Harmony Tanger porcelain tile was installed with a Sand Bloom pattern in the center and a Sand Cross border. This layout defines the main working area of the kitchen and adds structure to the room without overwhelming the rest of the design. The border helps frame the space and ties the layout together.

Appliances were kept in a straightforward configuration, with the range centered along the back wall and the refrigerator positioned to the left near the window. This arrangement supports a practical workflow and keeps everything within reach. Overall, the finished kitchen focuses on usability, clean lines, and a cohesive material palette, resulting in a space that feels updated and easy to live in.
