Quartersawn White Oak and Maple Cabinets in a Fresh Kitchen Remodel

This week’s featured project comes from the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Annapolis, MD, and was designed by designer, Kate Bjorke. This kitchen renovation focused on creating a layout that feels open, functional, and connected to the surrounding living spaces while keeping a clean and timeless look throughout the room.

The cabinetry selection combines two finishes from Brighton Cabinetry to give the kitchen some contrast without overwhelming the space. Paired with Bryant doors, the perimeter cabinetry in Maple Dover keeps the room bright and works well with the natural light coming through the windows above the sink. For the island and additional built-in storage areas, also sporting the Bryant door style, Quartersawn White Oak Natural cabinets were used to bring in warmth and texture that ties into the hardwood flooring.

The large center island serves as the main workspace in the kitchen while also providing seating and additional storage. The island cooktop keeps the perimeter counters open and allows the kitchen to remain connected to the nearby dining and living areas. Simple hardware selections and clean cabinet lines help maintain a straightforward and balanced design throughout the room. A main focal point of the island is the corbels that adorn either end, giving it an attractive feature that fits with the style of the home.

Several custom details help make the space feel finished and practical for daily use. Glass-front cabinetry and floating wood shelves create an open display area for glassware and kitchen accessories, while the built-in coffee station adds extra storage and countertop space outside the main prep areas. Tall cabinetry around the refrigerator and wall ovens also helps maximize storage without making the room feel closed in.

The finished kitchen brings together bright painted cabinetry, natural wood tones, and a layout designed for everyday living. By combining functional storage with an open design, Kate created a kitchen that feels comfortable, organized, and easy to use while still giving the home an updated look.
