This week’s featured project comes from the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Frankford, DE and was designed by Kevin Mikk. The homeowners were ready for an update after years with their existing kitchen. As they explained, their “kitchen was dated and cabinets were needing repair.” After hearing about Cabinet Discounters from a neighbor, they decided it was time to start planning their new space.
Kevin worked with the homeowners to create a new layout that made better use of the kitchen for both everyday cooking and entertaining. The new kitchen features Brighton Cabinetry with the Amesbury door style. Maple Iceberg was used for the perimeter cabinetry, while Maple Robin was incorporated on the island, adding a second color to the room while tying into the coastal-inspired details found throughout the space. The cabinetry is paired with Vicostone Luna Plena quartz countertops.
The new layout includes a large center island with seating and additional storage. Around the perimeter, cabinetry extends throughout the main work area, with tall cabinets providing added storage. The remodel also makes use of the adjoining dining area with a built-in beverage center, complete with cabinetry, countertop space, a beverage refrigerator and open shelving above. These additions give the homeowners more usable space without separating the kitchen from the dining area, while also taking advantage of previously wasted space.
For the homeowners, functionality was an important part of the project. “We use our kitchen for cooking and entertaining. It is very functional,” they said. The updated layout provides more work and storage space while keeping the sink, appliances, island and dining area connected. They added, “The design and layout makes it much easier and the look is very pleasing.”
The homeowners also had a positive experience throughout the remodeling process. “Everyone we dealt with from design to installation was amazing,” they said. Most importantly, the finished kitchen addressed the issues that led them to remodel in the first place while creating a space that works better for how they use their home today. As they put it, “We are very satisfied with the results.”
