“My kitchen turned out beautifully and has been receiving ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhhs'”

With their kitchen showing its age, a local customer had grown weary of their builder-grade kitchen that truly lacked the aesthetics for which they had been searching. The outdated cabinets and countertops were too old and not a great look, so they knew that a change was on the horizon.

kitchen remodel darnestown md“Our kitchen was a typical 1997 new-build, contractor grade white with green laminate countertops – most definitely time for an upgrade!  Plus, I’d discovered the builder had framed out our bar area hiding an additional 18” wide space that could have been used.  When it comes to kitchens, there’s no such thing as unusable space!  When we demoed the kitchen we even found where one of the builder’s crew had spray painted “Use space?” on the subfloor in that spot!”

Knowing that they had a previous, long-standing relationship and friendship with our designer Claudia Gillespie, the customer visited the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Olney to get the ball rolling on their project.

“I went to college with Claudia and have worked with her in the past.”

Having professional experience as a designer, the customer knew exactly what a kitchen remodel entailed. And when an issue arose along the way, she was very pleased with our ability to help her and work through it.

Working along with Claudia, the customer selected Brighton Cabinetry with Meadowview door style. The perimeter cabinets are Maple Custom in a green color with custom wear and sand, and the island cabinetry is Rustic Alder Natural with brown glaze. The kitchen countertops are Caesarstone Statuario Nuvo quartz, and the countertops on the free-standing cabinets near the living room are Black Pearl leathered granite.

“My kitchen turned out beautifully and has been receiving ooohs, and ahhhs from visitors.  We wanted our new kitchen to have a warm old-world charm, so we decided on a warm porcelain Versailles pattern tile floor, deep green painted cabinets for our perimeter wall/base cabinets, rustic alder for the island cabinets, and a soft white with subtle veining Caesarstone countertop – we absolutely love it!”

The size of the kitchen and layout of the cabinets and countertops allowed the customer room for a refrigerator that, because it’s only countertop depth, is much wider than their previous fridge. The new appliance has made life much easier for the customer.

Now that the job has been completed, the customer is loving the new space in the center of their home.

“Kitchens are the heart of the home, and ours is open to our family room so it is most definitely the hub of our home.”
