“This space has completely changed how we use our home”

There can be many aspects of your kitchen that may lead to you needing a remodel. It could be that your kitchen is too small, maybe your kitchen is outdated and falling apart, or maybe the layout of your kitchen can no longer accommodate the amenities of a modern kitchen. And when you’re faced with needing a new appliance in your kitchen, it can magnify these issues even more. A local family was dealing with a similar situation, and it eventually led them down a path to a kitchen remodel.

“It started as a bit of a domino effect. Our refrigerator broke, and we quickly learned we had a non-standard fridge size. That sent us down a research rabbit hole, and the more we looked into replacement options, the more we realized we didn’t love the existing kitchen layout or how dated it felt. We debated whether to simply update the cabinets and keep the layout or do a full remodel. Once we started working with Robert, we were able to come up with a plan that made sense for us both financially and from a functionality and design standpoint.”

After finding some documents from the previous owners of their house who had their kitchen remodeled with Cabinet Discounters, the family decided to visit our nearby Columbia, MD showroom. Once inside our showroom, they appreciated our communication and liked the products we had to offer. Designer Robert Polzin met with them and came up with a plan that worked for them.

“When we moved into our home, the previous owners left behind a lot of helpful documentation. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but when I went back through everything, I found a folder from Cabinet Discounters with receipts, request orders, layouts, and designs from when they remodeled the kitchen decades ago. That initially caught my attention. I also reached out to a few other kitchen remodelers, but none of them were as upfront, honest, or willing to work with me while I was still figuring out my budget. Robert was incredibly helpful from the start. He gave me realistic ballpark estimates at our first meeting, worked within our budget the whole renovation, and was transparent throughout the entire process.”

The customers were very pleased with their experiences working with both Robert and Jim Polzin. They liked always being kept in the loop and were happy with their ability to fix any issues that may have arisen.

“Working with Robert and Jim was great. Anytime we ran into an issue, they had solutions ready and kept everything moving smoothly. Communication was consistent, and we always felt informed of what was happening.”

In addition to working with Robert and Jim, and the family was extremely happy with all of the other contractors involved with their project through our installation department.

“The subcontractors were equally amazing. Jorge was on site every day and gave us multiple updates throughout the day. He truly went above and beyond, and we can’t say enough good things about him. This project came with a lot of unknowns like not knowing if we could raise the ceiling by 8″, whether we could remove the kitchen bulkhead, discovering important plumbing in a wall we planned to remove, and even deciding to widen the load-bearing living room entrance from 4’ to 8’ (which we’re so glad we did). We also met our new go-to electricians, Boh Electric. They went above and beyond as well, such as removing old switches and outlets in other first-floor rooms, adding extra overhead lighting once we realized the space needed it, fixing a poorly installed light fixture uncovered during the remodel, and overall just being incredibly friendly, professional, and respectful of our home. They were also super friendly to our dog who loved visiting them throughout the day.”

Working along with Robert, the customers selected Homecrest Cabinetry with Bexley Painted door style in Mystic Opaque. The countertops are Taj Mahal quartzite, and the backsplash tile is Pamarva Marlow 3″ x 12″ Desert glossy ceramic.

“We are very happy. This space has completely changed how we use our home, and we genuinely love spending time in the kitchen now. We would absolutely use Cabinet Discounters again for future renovations.”

Cooking and entertaining have become much easier for the family now that their kitchen remodel has completed. There’s plenty of room to gather, store kitchen items, and everything is placed conveniently to make the space much more functional.

“Cooking is so much easier and more enjoyable now. Everything flows better, and nothing feels cramped. We’ve also been able to entertain larger groups of family and friends comfortably. We’re no longer all packed into a small space around the old kitchen table. Even when people are spread between the kitchen and living room, everyone can still talk and interact easily. The open layout, fewer walls, and improved flow have made a huge difference.”

With so many storage options, including cooking items and trash being located near the cooktop, cooking and spending time in the kitchen has never been easier. The family couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out in the end.

“There is so much counter space, especially with the island, which has been a game-changer. The entire kitchen was designed around how we actually cook. Pots and pans are stored in the island, which is right behind the stove. The trash is tucked into a cabinet next to our prep area, making cleanup easy. I also now have a dedicated coffee and tea bar, which I love. Overall, it’s just really nice having a modern, warm, and functional kitchen that was designed specifically for us and how we live.”
