Our featured project for this week was designed out of the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Springfield, VA. The customer was looking for a kitchen that maximized the potential of their smaller kitchen. Needing to improve flow and functionality, along with increasing storage, the customer was ready to begin a remodeling project.
“We remodeled to improve the functionality and style of our kitchen, and to improve traffic flow between the living and dining rooms, basement, and back door. It’s a small space but we opened it up by removing a wall, and incorporated an island to increase counter space.”
Working with their general contractor, they were directed to work with Cabinet Discounters, and specifically our designer, Katie Kieler.

From cooking to hosting friends and family, the customers have found their new kitchen functions properly and efficiently for gatherings. They are looking forward to warmer days for entertaining between their kitchen and adjacent backyard.
“We loved hosting family at Christmas right after finishing the project, and we are excited for summer, when we will be able to easily go from the kitchen to the back patio for grilling and entertaining.”
In the end, the family has found that all of the goals they had heading into their kitchen remodel had been achieved. They increased storage, maximized functionality, and increased the flow of traffic throughout the space, despite having only a limited area in which they could work. The end result is a kitchen with modern amenities and beautiful cabinets that can stand the test of time.
“The traffic flow is a huge improvement, as is the counter space on the island. We also have tons of extra storage with the basement wet bar cabinetry.”
