This week’s featured project is a kitchen remodel designed by Rebecca Litton from the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Columbia, MD. The project updated the kitchen with new cabinetry and countertops while working within the existing layout and making use of the available space.
The kitchen features Homecrest Cabinetry with Waldron Painted Hardwood doors in Iceberg Opaque. The light cabinet finish works well with the hardwood floors and helps keep the kitchen feeling open. The cabinetry extends toward the ceiling in several areas, providing additional storage while making use of the room’s taller ceiling height. Small glass-front display cabinets were also incorporated near the ceiling to provide space for decorative items.
The layout provides plenty of countertop and storage space around the main work areas. Drawers and base cabinets surround the sink and range, while narrow drawer storage beside the range makes use of an otherwise limited area. On the opposite wall, additional cabinetry was added around the refrigerator, including a separate counter area that can be used for storage, serving, or everyday kitchen items.
Viatera Everest quartz countertops run throughout the kitchen. The light quartz pairs with the Iceberg Opaque cabinetry and provides a consistent work surface from the sink area around to the range. A stainless steel undermount sink was installed beneath the large window, allowing the countertop to remain uninterrupted around the sink. The countertops also run all the way into the window well, and keep a cohesive look all throughout the workspace.
Other elements of the space, including the hardwood flooring and stainless steel appliances, work with the new cabinetry and countertops. The gray-toned mosaic backsplash adds contrast between the light cabinets and counters, while under-cabinet lighting helps illuminate the work areas.
The finished kitchen makes better use of the available wall and storage space without changing the overall character of the home. Rebecca Litton’s design combines additional cabinetry, practical work surfaces, and details such as the upper display cabinets to create a kitchen suited for everyday use.
