Designed by Kevin Mikk at the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Frankford, DE, our featured kitchen remodel for this week brings together a spacious layout, practical storage, and thoughtfully selected materials. The design centers around a large island that provides plenty of room for meal preparation, casual dining, and gathering with family and friends.
The kitchen features Brighton Cabinetry with the Bryant door style in Maple Custom. The custom white cabinetry extends throughout the space, with glass-front cabinets adding display areas for decorative pieces and dishware. A built-in refrigerator surround, dedicated cooking area, and wall oven cabinetry help create a consistent look while keeping the kitchen organized.
One of the main features of this project is the use of Taj Mahal quartzite for both the countertops and full-height backsplash. The natural stone has a light, neutral color with subtle veining that fits perfectly with the white cabinetry. Continuing the quartzite up the wall behind the cooking area creates a coordinated appearance while eliminating the grout lines typically found with tile backsplashes. It also provides a gorgeous backdrop for the kitchen, and allows for easy cleaning for the homeowners.
The large center island provides additional workspace and seating for four. It also includes a farmhouse-style sink, dishwasher, and storage, allowing it to serve several purposes throughout the day. Pendant lighting above the island adds another design element, while the kitchen’s stainless steel appliances and cabinet hardware complement the overall color scheme.
The adjoining breakfast area is another important part of the layout. A built-in bench provides seating along the wall, while the nearby cabinetry offers additional counter space and storage. This arrangement connects the dining and kitchen areas without separating them into two distinct spaces.
With its combination of Brighton Cabinetry, Taj Mahal quartzite, and a layout designed around everyday use, this project shows how thoughtful planning can make a kitchen both functional and inviting. Working with designer Kevin Mikk at our Frankford, DE showroom, the homeowners were able to bring together the cabinetry, materials, and features that suited their space and their style.
