“There were several things that happened to inspire us to remodel the kitchen with improved function being a primary factor. We felt the kitchen space and storage could be laid out better, and we wanted to brighten it up – it was a very beige and dark color scheme originally. Other factors were that things in the kitchen were breaking, the appliances were all starting to have problems foreshadowing necessary replacement or very expensive repairs, counter tops were chipped, cabinet doors were warped and drawers were starting to give us problems. And possibly one of the biggest reasons was the large octagon shaped island had loads of storage, but the odd shape was limiting and there was no seating which felt like a lost gathering opportunity. We really wanted a seated island where we could chat with our kids or each other for breakfasts, and be together while we cooked or prepped food. We like to cook and were interested in making the kitchen more welcoming and functional for hanging out and chatting as a family.”
Using the recommendation of their contractor, the family decided to work with Cabinet Discounters for their project. They visited our Mount Airy, MD showroom and met with designer Bill Putiri to get started.

With their new kitchen, the family once again can use their space to spend time together. Whether just talking, cooking, or doing homework, the island is constantly in use, and the kitchen once again functions as it should.
“We have been using our space to cook as a family and enjoy meals together. The kitchen has become the family gathering place we had hoped with breakfasts and snacks at the seated island. Our kids will do their homework there and we are able to take time to catch up at the end of the day while cooking dinner. The cabinet layout has improved storage and made access to our kitchen items much more efficient and functional. We are looking forward to holidays with family and friends in the new welcoming and brighter kitchen space.”
The new storage options are now abundant and everything was designed with the mindset of making cooking and everyday life easier. With new drawers and a better design, Bill’s plan took advantage of every storage opportunity.
“The new kitchen has a much better storage layout making accessing kitchen appliances, tupperware etc. much easier and thus allows us to more easily keep it clean and tidy. We utilized drawers where we had shelving which has made accessing and organizing kitchen ware much easier. We installed open shelving on a small wall which previously had only two cabinets which allows us to display family mugs which brings a bit of our own family personality to the space as well as opening up the wall where the open shelves live. The larger corner sink has made cleaning up much easier and the cabinets are so far easy to maintain and keep clean.”
In the end, the family could not be happier with how everything turned out. Bill and Charlie worked together on this project to to make it a success.
