There can be many things in life that may make you realize that it’s time for a new kitchen in your home. Unfortunately, a local family experienced a fire in their kitchen, but used the opportunity to rebuild their kitchen better than ever.
“We had a small kitchen fire Aug, 2021. The original 1970 galley kitchen (including the wall and metal cabinets) were removed/gutted to make room for the new floorplan.”
Using the recommendation of a co-worker, the family decided to visit the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Mt. Airy to begin their project.

Once inside our showroom, the family sat down and met with designer Terri Reiter. Terri was able to listen to their specific needs, offer suggestions, and generate ideas for their new space. This new kitchen would really give the family the opportunity to put their own spin on things.

“The Creative In Counters folks were SO easy to deal with (and also patient) as we worked out how exactly to cut the quartzite island and countertop. And the stone installers were fast, efficient, and very good at their job.”
Working along with Terri, the family selected Brighton Cabinetry with Bryant door style for their kitchen. The upper cabinetry is Maple White, and the base cabinetry and island are a custom color on maple, which is matched to the Sherwin Williams color Jadite. The island countertops are Crystal Tiffany quartzite.
“I am amazed at how much I love the new kitchen. The open floorplan and the original windows that now add so much light to the room are just wonderful. It’s remarkably easy to sit and have dinner with family and friends at that big island!”
The family has found that hosting friends and family, and just cooking in general has become much easier in their new space.
“We’ve hosted two dinner parties with neighbors already! And the neighbors just love the kitchen. Before we had to try to fit 4 or 6 people in the tiny nook off of the kitchen. Now we can easily seat 4 or 6 people at the island and that nook is now our new mudroom for the farm! The addition of the six-burner gas stove has made cooking large meals 100% easier. Two full ovens make those large, English Sunday dinners a breeze! We are constantly rolling out different dough on the smooth, lower section of the island and then assembling/serving dinner at the higher level. In the old kitchen we only had 3 drawers, so the addition of so many new drawers has been a Godsend. I just don’t know how we lived in that tiny, cramped little kitchen before!”
Despite the unfortunate circumstances that led to the kitchen remodel, the family is happier than ever with how everything turned out and was able to turn their negative into a major positive.
