Working with designer Rebecca Litton out of the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Columbia, MD, the homeowners created a space that feels connected to the rest of the home while offering everything needed for food preparation and serving.
The design centers around a large island that provides generous workspace, additional storage, and plenty of seating opportunities. The contrast between the Peacock Opaque island cabinetry and the Mystic Opaque wall cabinets gives the room a balanced look without feeling overly formal. The island naturally becomes the focal point of the space, punctuated by the columns on either end that were constructed to hide steel supports for the home.
Homecrest Cabinetry with the Bexley Painted door style was selected throughout the project, providing clean lines that fit well with the home’s updated style. Viatera Rococo quartz countertops add a durable work surface with subtle movement that complements both cabinet finishes. A light gray tile backsplash and stainless steel appliances complete the kitchen with a cohesive appearance.
Because this kitchen is part of a finished basement, functionality was just as important as appearance. Ample cabinet storage, a spacious prep area, and a full sink and dishwasher make it easy to use the space for everything from casual snacks to entertaining larger groups. The layout also keeps the kitchen open to the adjacent living area, allowing guests and family members to gather comfortably while meals are being prepared.
