A Brand New Basement for Ultimate Relaxation

Wouldn’t you love to have a comfortable space in which to relax after a long day of working? Or a great area for entertaining and watching the big game? That’s what the Mayer family of Olney, MD now has, after they turned to the Cabinet Discounters Olney showroom and designer Claudia Gillespie.

“Having the irregular shape of the stones on the fireplace as well as the different wall widths did make it a bit challenging. We were also a bit creative changing the cabinet to accommodate the current gas switch which was on the bottom half of the right side of the fireplace. But with the flexibility of Brighton cabinets, I was able to create a symmetric looking space.” – Claudia Gillespie

Along with the asymmetric areas on either end of the fireplace, another issue that Claudia had to deal with was the ability to accommodate the large size of the family’s television.

“The size of the TV was an oddity. It is larger than most. I did need to quote out the extra width bookcase with Brighton to make certain it could be done in the exceptional size.” – Claudia Gillespie

“Our Brighton material far exceeded the quality of the existing bar cabinetry. We kept the existing base cabinets and threw out the one wall cabinet. It was discovered before purchasing the cabinetry that the soffit to the far right would not be able to be removed without a lot of work and expense. So once again, with the flexibility of the Brighton cabinets, I was able to make a wall cabinet to fit perfectly below the soffit and still look uniform/symmetric with the rest of the wall cabinets.”  –  Claudia Gillespie

The custom Brighton Cabinetry was done in Hickory with a Hickory Mesquite finish and Homeland raised door-style. The tile backsplash behind the bar area is PaMarVa tile with Lancaster stone and glass mosaic strips.

Glass-fronted cabinets beneath the TV store cable boxes, gaming consoles and more. The entire area has become more functional and provides the family with a great area in which to relax.

“I was delighted with the outcome. It already was an attractive space, but after having the back wall totally encased in cabinetry with the fireplace in the center, it was a real living space anyone would want to spend time in.” – Claudia Gillespie
