This week’s Featured Project highlights a kitchen remodel designed by Bill Putiri at the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Mt. Airy, MD. Cabinet Discounters worked alongside Talon Construction, who handled the installation, to create a kitchen with a large central island, plenty of storage, and a layout that provides space for both cooking and gathering.
The kitchen features Brighton Cabinetry with the Thompson door style throughout. The perimeter cabinets are finished in Maple Custom, while the island features Maple Heron, providing a subtle contrast between the two areas. Black cabinet hardware complements both finishes, while glass-front upper cabinets with interior lighting provide an area for displaying glassware and other items.
The large central island serves several purposes, offering seating on multiple sides, additional storage, and a built-in cooktop. Drawers and cabinets provide convenient storage for everyday kitchen essentials, while open shelving at one end of the island offers space for cookbooks. Along the perimeter, the cabinetry incorporates dedicated areas for food preparation, cleanup, and beverage storage, including an undercounter refrigerator.
Vicostone Moonglade quartz was selected for the countertops throughout the kitchen. Its light background and gray and beige veining coordinate with both cabinet finishes. The same quartz material was also used for the full-height backsplash, extending from the countertops to the upper cabinets. This creates a consistent appearance across the kitchen while offering a surface that’s easy to wipe down without the grout lines typically found with tile backsplashes.
The completed kitchen combines a range of storage options with an expansive island and coordinated finishes. With the Brighton Cabinetry, Vicostone quartz surfaces, and thoughtful use of the available space, the result is a kitchen designed to meet the homeowners’ everyday needs.
