A new kitchen can often affect the way you live in and use the space in your home. Changing the layout, removing a wall, removing a soffit and adding an island can transform the architectural design of your home’s interior.
Recently, the Kaminski family of Brookeville, MD came to the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Olney looking for kitchen cabinets and counters for a remodeling project.
When we first met Wendy Ames I decided cabinets and countertops would do the trick. However, when I pondered the project and costs it was decided to do it right. Doing it right meant removing the soffits and recessing a beam. Additionally, all new appliances were added to the project.

Wendy worked with them to come up with the design plans that would address structural issues, open up the space and allow them to have an island in their narrow kitchen, something they had on their “wish list” and had hoped to incorporate!
This kitchen was a lot of work, with the following challenges:
- beam in the ceiling in order to completely get rid of the soffit hanging over the peninsula
- half wall removed between adjacent room and kitchen
- narrow kitchen but they wanted an island so we settled on a small island near the fridge
- wood floors had to be pieced with new planks
They were super nice, and flexible. I couldn’t ask for better customers!

Cabinet Discounters provided custom cabinetry, counters, backsplash tile and the installation for the Kaminski’s kitchen remodel and the end result both met and exceeded their expectations. Materials chosen for the project:
- Homecrest maple cabinets, Maple Bison finish, Verano door style
- St. Cecilia granite countertop, demi bullnose edge
- Bellavita metro 3”x6” tile
Installers, each and every sub was fantastic. Yes, the carpenter made lots of noise and dust. However the area was sealed off and cleaned every day. It amazed me how coordinated the schedule was. All arrived on time and did the job in a workman’s like manner. Satisfied? More than satisfied. The end product was beyond my expectation.
