“Cabinet Discounters offered the high quality option we wanted at an affordable price”
Is your kitchen too small, outdated, falling apart, or all of the above? Are you finding that things like cooking and storage space are getting in the way of your kitchen happiness? Is it becoming more and more difficult for your family to gather in your space? If you can relate to any of these issues, then a new kitchen may be in your future. A local family found themselves in a similar spot, and knew that they had to do something.
“We decided to remodel our 1987 kitchen because it was too small, lacked storage and counter surface, and the old appliances were no longer adequate for our cooking and baking needs. We had wanted a new kitchen for some years, but it seemed that something always came up thatdid not allow us enough time to tackle it.”
Using the recommendation of the designer with whom they started the project, the customers visited the Cabinet Discounters showroom in Columbia. Specifically, they were advised to work with designer Ann McDaniels.
“We chose Cabinet Discounters because our initial designer, Carol Christens-Barryfrom Christen-Daniels Interiors, LLC (Ellicott City) recommended your company, and Ann McDaniels specifically.”
Once inside our showroom, the customers sat down with Ann and devised a plan to work within their space. Not only were they extremely happy with their experience working alongside Ann, but they also were quite pleased with the quality of products we have to offer.
“We were looking for a more personal relationship for our cabinet design, and Ann McDaniels was great. We also wanted a higher quality cabinet product than we had experienced in the big box stores, and Cabinet Discounters offered the high quality option we wanted at an affordable price. Cabinet Discounters gives you that personal touch with your cabinets, checking everything from order to delivery. Ann patiently listened to our wish list and went over our functional and storage needs in great detail. We worked on our plan together, meeting often until we came up with a great design. Ann was very skillful at interpreting our stated wishes into actual product combinations to solve design challenges. Ann also helped us to select an appliance dealer, Appliance Distributors Unlimited (ADU) in Linthicum, MD. Ann’s patience, customer service, positive attitude and technical skill are unparalleled.”
The family had a specific vision in mind for what they wanted in their new kitchen. From repurposing old space to creating new storage for some of their pottery, they had an exact idea of what they wanted for everything.
“We decided to repurpose our former dining room to double the size of our new kitchen. Since we had added a new “breakfast room” extending into our back yard some time ago, we no longer needed both dining spaces. We also wished to replace the exterior dining room sliding doors, no longer needed, with an open view “window wall” overlooking our great yard and open space, with sink, dishwasher and lower cabinets only. We also asked Ann to include a feature gas range/custom hood wall with flanking glass door, back-lit cabinets to display [my wife’s] PolishPottery collection from our time in Europe.”
Along with their experience working with Ann, the family was also very happy with all of their contractors involved on the project. They wanted to specifically give a shout-out to a few people outside of Cabinet Discounters who were an integral part of their remodel.
“Krystal Smith at ADU was outstanding and helped us choose the best appliances to meet our needs. She took the time to show us all the various features of many brands. We returned for a couple of follow-up visits, and she helped us reach the decision point. ADU’s field installation team took meticulous measurements and worked with our carpenters to ensure perfection at installation. They are a top notch company, providing personal service from your first visit to their showroom until final installation. They are so much better to work with than anonymousbox store employees and their prices are very fair. We selected a top builder willing to tackle this big project: Smithouse Construction, LLC, (Dave Smith, owner), Cockeysville, MD. Smithouse provided reliable subcontractors for plumbing, electrical and HVAC work and in-housecarpenters and project managers. Everyone worked as a team, with no disagreements. Smithouse’s onsite project management was amazing and we never had even a single day delay over the two month project. Their back office ordering and coordination with subcontractors was great. They prepared meticulous daily and weekly schedules, which theypresented to us so that we could collaborate on the schedule and have input on key decisions when issues arose. They took special care to allow us to continue our lives during construction with minimal impact.”
Working along with Ann and all of their contractors, the customer had many materials to select. On the perimeter of the kitchen, they used Homecrest Cabinetry with Sedona Maple door style and Alpine Opaque color. The countertops around the perimeter are Alabaster White from Q Quartz. The island cabinetry is from Brighton Cabinetry with a Shaker door and custom blue color on maple wood. The island tops are Q Quartz Mara Blanca. The family is finding that their kitchen is much easier to enjoy.
“We both like to cook and bake, so we thoroughly enjoy all the extra counter and storage space and special features. The state of the art appliances are amazing to cook with. Our favorites are the GE Monogram six burner gas range and oven with burner grates that flip over to accommodate a real Chinese Wok, Sharp Microwave drawer, High BTU GE Monogram range hood, custom built hood enclosure, KitchenAid Electric oven, dishwasher and side by side refrigerator, pop up counter outlets, beautiful one piece quartz hood surround, quartz counters, hot water dispenser, custom designed lighting plan with dimmers, task and undercounter lighting. The new layout with its giant island allows for easy flow for everyday comfort and entertaining. With our old compartmented small dining room, we never actually used our living room. Now it is accessible and we use it all the time for guests.”
In the end, the family could not be more pleased with how everything turned out.
“To summarize, our kitchen project was a lot of work to take us from ideas and concepts, through design, cabinet and appliance specification, ordering, and construction, but it was worth all of it for the amazing result. We enjoy our new kitchen every day, and it was well worth the investment. Cabinet Discounters was a great partner throughout the process and we could not have done it without you and our favorite designer, Ann McDaniels! All the other players were critical to the success of the project as well.”
